Bridget & Matt, New England Aquarium Wedding

If you know me well, you have probably heard me talk about this wedding - two days before Bridget and Matt were scheduled to be married in Boston, the Bruins announced the Stanley Cup Parade would occur on the same day! With over one thousand people outside Trinity Church an hour before the ceremony and one of the largest bridal parties we've ever worked with, I can't say it wasn't a challenge. But nothing could stop us from making sure their was flawless and we were able to pull it off without a hitch! No delays, timeline was on track, and most importantly, the couple had huge smiles on their faces the whole day. The New England Aquarium proved for an exciting and unique reception venue and the couple was even able to get a quick shot with a Bruins Celeb! With our 2011 wedding season coming to an abrubt [yet successful!] close, we are SO excited to be sharing all the beautiful weddings we have had the honor of keeping busy with this past summer + fall.

Winter is such a great time of year for a wedding! Kate & Sal's wedding was the first wedding our season and it was really special to me. I am good friends with the bride's brother and it was an honor to share in this family's special day. One of my favorite moments was when Kate's two brothers joined her on the dance floor for an impromptu dance and a spontaneous circle of guests formed around them. I thought it was so sweet and then I looked at Kate's mother - she had tears in her eyes and her hands cupped over her mouth. The groom then joined in and it was so evident how close and happy this family truly was.

If you like poppies you are bound to fall in love with these garden gems...

Quick lesson for the bride on Anemones: The name Anemone stems from Greek language meaning "wind flower" or "daughter of the wind" and the flower symbolizes "expectation". They are grown primarily in the late fall - late spring and are inexpensive in their season. Learn more about them here.

Clean and classic white:

When arranged with soft pink and white roses these anemones make a bold statement. Add feathers to spice up the black and white bouquet. These flowers are beautiful all by themselves, for a bride who want to keep it simple - one stem centerpieces in small, clear and opaque vases.

Anemones are easily team players.

Another great thing about this flower is its versatility. a hot trend this season is the sherbet color palette, with soft peaches, pinks, and yellows, the white anemone is a perfect addition.

Like the blossom but not into the stark white petals? Anemones also come in pink, purple, yellow, red, burgundy, and magenta, making them an easy choice to use for ceremony/reception decor, or to add your accent color into the bridesmaid bouquets.

Flowers and cakes seems to pair quite well for weddings and here are some perfect examples. The dark center of the anemones add a splash of color to the white on ivory four tier cake. Next, The flowers are used here as an accent to the white birch wood grain wedding cake. Finally, The anemone theme cake is simple two tier, with beautiful, life like fondant detail.

{Twinkle light alternatives: love the clean, whimsical look of the hanging lanterns - while they might be a little tricky to hang, the lit mason jars are simple to construct - a little colored tissue paper and (battery powered) votive candles will do the trick. If you're looking for just a little light accent, try using wire to hang glass votive holders & place your tea lights in the them.}

For the more subtle bride...

Here are some tips on how to create a peacock themed wedding. To keep it classy and not tacky, be careful not to go overboard! Choose just three or four ways to incorporate your feathers because in this case, a little goes a long way.

1. Add peacock feathers to your centerpieces, bouquets and/or bouonnieres.

2. Create candle holders with peacock feathers around the base.

3. Wear some peacock feathers in your hair...could be your something blue!

4. Make your own napkin holders and glue the feathers on to them.

5. Glue a peacock feather to the top of your guestbook pen.

6. Have your flower girl sprinkle peacock feathers instead of petals when she walks down the aisle.

Although signs may not always be necessary, there are always helpful, and with a little creativity, they can be used to create a true cohesiveness that will only add to the theme or style of your wedding - For example, If you are having a rustic outdoor wedding, try using distressed wood or pieces of bark to convey the message. A very MOB, mother's day!

This time of year we can't help but to have the mother of the bride on our minds...

With mother's day approaching, we thought it might be nice to think about your MOB/MOG. Your wedding day is a huge day for them too - not only are they hosting one the biggest events of their lives, but also watching their little girl become a wife! Giving their daughter away AND gaining a son ...a very emotional job to have, I'm sure.

With that said, here are some sweet and simple ideas that you could use to show your favorite lady how much she means to you on your wedding day:

Display framed pictures from your parents and/or grandparents’ wedding on your cake/gift/guestbook table.

Walk down the isle to the same song that your mother walked down the isle to, or use the first dance song your parents danced to as your first or last dance song.

Use material from your mother’s wedding veil or wedding dress to wrap your bouquet.

Ask if you could wear a piece of your mother’s jewelry that is significant to her as your wedding jewelry.

Ask your photographer if they could try to replicate a picture of you to one of your favorite photographs from your parent’s wedding album.

Perhaps this mother’s day you could take some time to think of how you could show your mom some appreciation on your wedding day, in a way that is special to you both.

Great Gatsby Event Design

Just finished working on an event design proposal for our Great Gatsby event this June. I just LOVE this theme and I had to share some of our inspiration!

Color Scheme will be Amethyst & White with Black & Amber Accents...

All stationary will be art-deco and each guests will need to know a code to get into to the Speakeasy. Menu will be loosely based on 1920's cuisine and of course, the signature drink will be Mint Julep.

The escort card table's focal point will be some grand white feathers in a martini glass. Because it's a fundraiser, centerpieces must be affordable. We've suggested multiple options including amber bud vases with white floral stems or even stacked hat boxes and vintage hats...

We love this vintage dessert station so we've suggested a similar style station but with different colors of course.

Kristin & Thomas were married in September at Santo Christo Church in Fall River, MA. Their beautiful, classic reception followed at Roger Williams Casino in Providence, RI. The rich color palette featured gold and burgundy with hints of pink and ivory. Stoneblossoms created the breathtaking candelabra centerpieces and floral while Accentuations Floral Design provided the large crystal tree to 'wow' her guests during cocktail hour. The stationary and seating chart was designed created by yours truly while Bob Carpenter from Main Event Weddings created an impressive gobo to display during the reception. Want a Guest Book everyone is sure to talk about? Many brides do but with all the other wedding details, it's often overlooked. Instead of sending your maid of honor out to grab one at Michaels 24 hours before the wedding, do something special that will truly welcome your guests. Here are a few great ideas to personalize your guest book. They may take a little more time to put together but they all have a lasting impression!

* A new twist on a classic quilt project - what home-ec class has never put a quilt together of favorite t-shirts or old pictures? Now you can take your guests well wishes to the couch.

*Print out mad lib cards where your guests can create funny stories to share on your special day. These are great in a scrap book and you can enjoy for years to come!

*“Leaf” a thumb print. Guests can use their thumb print to create leaves on your wedding tree and sign their name next to it. It instantly becomes a work of art!

*A guest book that keeps giving- or reminding! Never forget a birthday again, have your guests sign their special day on the calendar for you special day!

Mary & Blake, A Midsummer Night's Dream...

The one thing I knew about Mary & Blake from day one – that this couple was totally, immensely, in love. The more I came to know them, the more I saw that they were truly a perfect couple. They make each other stronger, happier, and they believe and support each other in every way. No matter what life threw at them during their planning – from a drop-out bridesmaid to multiple car accidents to having to change their wedding date entirely (!) – they persevered and they always made my job so much fun! When their wedding day came, I was honored to be there but I was also sad to know it was coming to an end. Luckily for me, I now have two more great people in my life that I can call friends.

The wedding took place within Hotel Providence and Aspire. Guests were greeted by a bagpiper to pay tribute to their Irish heritage. They were informed of the day's wedding itinerary from a video we created for them; it was projected on the televisions throughout the hotel lobby and was done elegantly over their monogram. The floral bouquets consisted of fiddlehead ferns adorned with orchids.

The first look took place within the hotel's outdoor terrace. Blake and his father both wore yellow roses in remembrance of Blake's mother, it was her favorite flower.

Mary's father walked her down the aisle and also performed the ceremony.

What better transportation than a school bus for the music teacher??

The table names were names after some of the couples favorite places, real and fictional.

Since Mary is a musician, Blake surprised her with a customized ice sculpture. In turn, she surprised him with his very own customized cupcake toting the Macedonian shield - perfect for Blake, a true history buff who loves Alexander the Great. The cupcakes showcased fiddlehead ferns and were beautifully made and displayed by the Cupcake Contessa.

The entertainment and lighting was provided by George at CE DJ's who perfectly disrupted the first dance as Extraordinary Rendition Band busted in and surprised all the guests. As you can see here, the crowd ate it up! The last surprise of the night was for Mary; Blake booked our hotel room decor package so we dressed their hotel room in flowers, petals, candles & some bubbly for their first night together as Mr & Mrs.

This couple really did it right - a night full of suprises, food, festivities and fun! Congratulations again Mary & Blake, we already miss working with you!

A Lesson in Retro Glam

When discussing vintage style, most picture "Vintage Glam" - a style heavy with glamorous Rococo and Victorian influences (i.e., damask prints, lace, intricate curves, ruffles, ornate furniture and elaborate chandeliers). But let’s not forget the bold sister of Vintage Glam: Art Deco.

I know, I know – before you poo-poo Art Deco as nothing but tacky, pastel Cubism (yes, we all remember the awful 80’s revival) or cliché prom décor, hear me out! You’ll be amazed how these mainstream Art Deco elements can create a striking and ultra-crisp wedding.

If you’re a modern bride desiring a wedding with fewer frills, this period may be your answer. Art Deco emphasizes geometric shapes, patterns, powerful lines and symmetrical arrangements. For design cues, think The Great Gatsby and the Chrysler Building in NYC. To avoid looking gaudy, stay away from Broadway themes and flapper-girl extremes; stick with sleek accents (like chrome and metal tones) and statement onyx jewelry.

If you haven’t seen this style yet, be the first to jump on the trend for 2011. Your male guests will love the nod to stunning architecture and industrialism; your female guests will forever think of you as their coolest “city-chic” pal.

Its that time of year - pumpkins are taking over! I love fall-themed weddings with the warm colors of orange, red and yellow, and what better to evoke the feeling of fall than pumpkins. If you are thinking of having a fall wedding don't be afraid to add pumpkins in the mix. There are great ways to incorporate these natural elements without recreating a Charlie Brown movie. Want to keep it looking elegant? Try painting the pumpkins white and spraying them with glitter....the possibilities are endless!

Deidre & Phil were married this July at Waterplace Park. Their reception followed at Cafe Nuovo in the Rotunda. Deidre wanted feathers from the beginning which she incorporated tastefully in her floral, accessories and even her cupcake design. For all the rest, just look at her dress! Her wedding followed the same lines; elegant and fun, classic and unique. This event definitely had one of the best crowds of the season and such an amazing family. Candy Buffet & Wishing Tree Rental at The Cultural Center

Infinite Events recently provided a candy buffet & wishing tree for Julie & Scott's wedding at the Cultural Center. Upon set-up we were thoroughly impressed with Milestone's linen and floral decor. We've worked with Liberal many times now and he never ceases to amaze us! See below for some of Infinite's rental pics and a glimpse of one (of many different) centerpieces provided by Milestone's that day.

Our Wishing Tree can be rented as an alternate Guest Book. Guests fill out cards with their individual wishes for the bride & groom and hang them on the tree. After the wedding, these cards can be put in an album as a more personal momento than a traditional guest book.

Margaret & Greg's Wedding - The Meeting House, Tiverton, RI

Margaret & Greg were married on July 5, 2010 at The Meeting House. They had a private ceremony that morning and a simple celebration soon followed that focused on food, fun and comfort. Russ Morins provided the delicious tapas spread & Paul Blackmore took these amazing photos. See below for some more insight on their special day and congrats again Margo & Greg!

Margaret alternated lush garden style centerpieces with simple yellow & orange callas. The calla arrangements were sentimental as her grandmother used them at her own wedding.

Favors boxes contained a framed photo of the newlyweds with their new home address and a mini-bag of jordan almonds.

Infinite Events recently assisted Kelly and Matej at their seaside wedding in Cohasset, MA. Not only were the Hurley grounds a perfect backdrop for their special day, but their loving family and guests blew us away during the reception celebration: never before have we seen EVERY guest (young, old and in-between!) on their feet, singing and dancing with the couple as soon as they entered the reception. Sarah & Josh were married at the Rotch-Jones Duff House & Garden Museum in New Bedford, MA. Their reception took place at Stone Bridge Farm in Acushnet, MA. From the beginning, the bride and groom had envisioned a simple, tented, backyard wedding. With hummingbirds in flight and butterfly bushes in full bloom, this was the perfect setting for their special day. The tent was complete with paper lanterns courtesy of Ryan Designs, linens from Divine Weddings, floral from Accentuations Floral and other decorative details from yours truly, Infinite Events. Thanks to Chris at Sound Xplosion for keeping the guests dancing all night long and Russ Morin's for providing their amazing customized buffet. Congrats again Sarah & Josh, it was a pleasure working with you throughout your planning process!

Do you David take Vera...??

Vera Wang has recently announced that she will be partnering with David's Bridal and developing a new, lower priced line of gowns. The gowns will be in stores by Spring 2011 and all priced under $1,500.00. Soon after this release, Vera will be offering accessories and a line of bridesmaid's through David's also.

Though many are calling Vera a "sell-out", the product of this unexpected union could result in some fabulous fashion for the budget conscious bride! Vera's definitely taking a risk in aligning with the "Walmart of wedding gowns" but from a business point of view, it's an extremely smart, strategic move. I, personally, am excited to see what she does with this line. And since when has Vera ever done us wrong??

Each year I meet more and more photographers and each year, it gets easier to set the original artists apart from the rest. Recently, I met a photographer out of Rhode Island, Kevin Trimmer, whose work was more than impressive. As he showed me his photographs, he told me stories about some of the couples and spoke of what was happening when some of the shots were being taken. But even without his narratives, his shots are so... clear. It's so easy to see the full story... the raw emotion... and the different characters within. His ability to capture people "in the moment", his eye for color, and his original style is truly admirable. I am happy to know him and look forward to working with him later this year!

As your wedding day approaches, you will begin to wonder which wedding vendors you should tip and how much. To make life easier for all of you, I've created a cheat sheet to help - it includes who, when, and how much is typically expected. Keep in mind that there are always exceptions to what is traditional; this chart is simply to be used as a guideline.

Lastly, when giving out your tips, it's best to have one person in charge of handling this task on your wedding day; traditionally it's your best man or wedding planner. The tips should be in cash and in sealed envelopes labeled with the appropriate vendor names. This will make it easier for whoever is responsible for handing them out the day-of.

1. DIY Projects
Do-it-yourself projects can save you a lot of money but can cost you a lot of time. Making your own favors, invites, place cards, etc. can all be worth if but only if you have the time and energy to spend.

2. Long Engagements
The more time you have to plan your wedding, the more you can shop around and increase your savings.

3. Ask for More
In this economy, vendors are very competitive in their pricing and there’s always room for negotiation. If you’re splurging on one area of the wedding, ask that vendor to throw something in; whether it’s a free ceremony piece from your florist or an extra half hour of your DJ’s time. It never hurts to ask.

4. Make the Cut
Trimming down your guest list can save you thousands. A good place to start is with anyone you don’t know: your parent’s coworkers, extended family you’ve met only once, etc. Cutting down the list can be hard but well worth it.

I had the pleasure of attending a beautiful baptism recently for my second cousin, Thatcher Joaquim. It was held at the historic Old South Church in Boston, MA. The architecture of this church is amazing... majestic... inspiring. The service was given by Rev. Nancy Taylor who delivered her sermon as if she'd been preparing it for years. She addressed the congregation with such passion and sentiment, it made me wish I lived closer so I could experience such a service again. If you're ever in Boston on a Sunday morning, visit this church for a moving service- or just take their tour. If you're looking for a church ceremony in the Boston area, definitely consider Old South. They are open to every race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and religious background.

For those of you who missed this on WETV's Rich Bride, Poor Bride, here's some additional pictures of the Strolling Dessert Tables. I was surprised to see so many online inquiries about this after the show but there are a ton of people searching for that shock factor. Right now, there are only a few companies in the U.S. that provide this service but they will travel (for a fee of course). So if you're looking to truly WOW your guests and show them something they've never seen before, this may be for you! My only advice for any brides interested: Be ready for them to steal the show!
